I didn’t participate in last fall’s IHG promotion because it just wasn’t worth it to me. Seems that once you participate, the next promo they make it even harder for you to earn the points.

If you are not sure what I’m talking about….IHG has been running a promo at least twice a year giving away points for completing tasks.  You must be an IHG member.  It is totally free to sign up and if you haven’t ever signed up, you should.  IHG hotels encompass the Holiday Inn brands as well as Candlewood Suites, Staybridge Suites, Hotel Indigo, Kimpton Hotels, Crowne Plaza, Intercontinental and Even Hotels.  Each promotion is individually tailored, meaning that everyone gets a different “offer” or task list to complete. My husband and I are both IHG members and we each got slightly different offers. I wasn’t too excited about it until today when I started looking to book a hotel in Chicago for the travel show.

Here’s my offer-

ihg winter promo offer

My IHG winter promo offer

I’m looking to stay January 22, so that counts towards the 5000 January bonus offer.  If it’s stackable,  it’ll count towards my “stay once” offer for another 5000 points.  I booked a “5000 bonus points package” for another 2000 points and used my IHG credit card to pay for it for another 1500 points.  At the bottom of my offer it says “do 3 of 4 listed about for an additional 31,500 points.”  I will have completed 3 tasks with one stay which should qualify me for the additional bonus.

So here’s the math:

5000 January stay

5000 Stay once

2000 Bonus package booked

1500 Pay with IHG credit card

31,500 additional points for completing 3 of 4 tasks

Plus the 5000 bonus points I paid for in the package booking

That’s 50,000 points earned for spending $119.21 plus I’ll earn points from the credit card spend (around 600 points) and I should get a welcome gift of 500 points.  For a total of 51,100 points.   That’s 10 free nights somewhere if using a points-break list of hotels, which changes several times a year, or 5 free nights at a category 1 hotel.  You could also use it for an aspiring award stay of one night at a category 9 hotel, which include The Intercontinental Hotels in Times Square-New York, Monterrey-California, London-Westminster, Paris, Tokyo, Sydney or one of two IC hotels in Bora Bora! If you hold the IHG credit card you can combine that with your free annual night that you get each year when you hold the credit card (for a couple that’s 2 more free nights) for 3 free nights at one of those luxury hotels.

Now we just have to wait and see if it all “qualifies”!
